Play in a Day, July 25 at 7pm #LiveAtTheLyric!

The Ozark Arts Council Presents:

Play in a Day

Saturday, July 25, 7:00PM

The Ozark Arts Council and NorthArk Drama present (…uh…well, we’re not sure yet!) performed at the Historic 1929 Lyric Theater Saturday July 25 at 7:00PM. Tickets are Pay What You Want with the promo code PWYW26!

Uh-oh, those pesky Theatre kids are at it again! Come watch a group of outrageously funny Theatre students pick a play out of a hat…and produce it in only 24 hours!

They might be familiar with the play or have never heard of it: that’s just the luck of the draw. And if they can’t memorize it in 24 hours…well, they’d better be good at improv!

Join us for the 3rd Annual Play in a Day, where high school and college students show off their acting and technical skills and attempt to build set, make costumes, design lights, memorize a full script, and more to produce  a full play. Will they be able to do it? Come see for yourself Saturday July 25 at 7pm!

To thank you for your support, they’ve decided to let you determine how much to pay for admission. Just enter the ‘Pay What You Will’ promo code, PWYW26, and your ticket price will zero out, and then you can put the amount you want to pay into the ‘Donation’ area when you’re checking out, as depicted here:

Join us at the Lyric for…(again, we won’t know until the actors and tech crew do) on July 25 at 7:00PM #LiveAtTheLyric. Tickets are on sale now…right on this page!

Peter and the Starcatcher, June 5–6 & June 12–13 at 7pm, June 7 & 14 at 2pm! #LiveAtTheLyric!

The Ozark Arts Council Presents:

Peter and the Starcatcher

Friday–Saturday, June 5–6 & 12–13, 7:00PM
Sunday, June 7 & 14, 2:00PM

The Ozark Arts Council presents Peter and the Starcatcher performed at the Historic 1929 Lyric Theater June 5–6 and 12–13 at 7:00PM, June 7 and 14 at 2:00PM. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (55+) and students, and $11 for children (11 and under), when bought in advance; prices rise $4 if purchased at the door—$19 for adults, $17 for seniors and students, and $15 for children. Tickets on sale NOW!

Odds bobs hammers and tongs! Tony-nominated Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors Roger Rees and Alex Timbers and written by Rick Elice with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair and the bonds of friendship, duty, and love.

A young orphan (Wesley Gilbert) and his mates (Emma Braswell and Abbey Jenkins) are shipped off by the evil orphanage master Grempkin (Fred Lutz) from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in Lord Leonard Aster’s (Jayden Bradshaw) cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly (Juniper Salsman), a Starcatcher-in-training, who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful it must never fall into the wrong hands, like the dreadful Pirate Slank (Braden Haley) or his Enforcer (Abigail Harrison). When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache (Griffin Motley), a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own (aided by Smee—Isaak Farmer—of course) – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure. With a crew of dastardly pirates (Savannah Mount, Liberty Simon), sailors who turn into Mollusks (Peyton Le, Susannah Boren, Bailey Kolb, Finley Bailey, Lena Harris), a gassy pirate (Landyn Gilbert) and his lady-love (Rachel Hayes), and mermaids who used to be fish (Hayleigh Rodery), this is going to be an awfully big adventure!

Join us for Peter and the Starcatcher performed at the Historic 1929 Lyric Theater June 5–6 and 12–13 at 7:00PM, June 7 and 14 at 2:00PM. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (55+) and students, and $11 for children (11 and under), when bought in advance; prices rise $4 if purchased at the door—$19 for adults, $17 for seniors and students, and $15 for children. #LiveAtTheLyric. Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny, and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! (At least the losers get a juice box!)

A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a delightful den of comedic genius. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a fast-paced crowd pleaser and an instant theatre patron favorite.

One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The jack-of-all-trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”

Please check out our wonderful sponsors!

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft. Set in an era in which the strength of women as leaders in society was first truly blossoming in England, this show’s iconic female lead character has provided us with an excellent opportunity to feature local woman-owned businesses, as well, who were kind enough to sponsor the unique special effects and illusions that help make Mary Poppins even more exciting on stage than at the movies! Please visit them and thank them with your business when you can!
