What happens to a young couple when their families are against their relationship and impending marriage? The Ozark Arts Council is proud to present another Community Artist Spotlight: Tender Ties by local playwright Denise Fleming, featuring original music by Emily Kaitz.

A comical and original look at this classic story, Tender Ties will be presented at Twelve Oaks, 7201 Hwy. 7 South, on Fri, Oct. 22, 2010 at 7:30pm; Sat, Oct. 23 at 7:30pm; and Sun, Oct. 24, 2010 at 2pm. Tickets are $25 and include dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and High Tea on Sunday afternoon.

Jenny Swaggert's (Hannah Whorton) father Merle (Rob Thomason) is highly skeptical of his daughter's choice in men, specifically, a young man he says has been "raised in a high fallutin' loony bin and on top of that has too much money!"

Michael Worthmore's (Geoff Roch) mother Evelyn (Shelly McAlpin) is not quite as subtle as Merle and is committed to the failure of this upcoming marriage. She declares that the "Swaggert family doesn't know the difference between a pitch fork and a salad fork!"

While searching for a way to convince Michael that he is making a mistake, Evelyn stumbles across a medium, Sister Midge (Denise Fleming), who can supposedly speak to the dead.

Tender Ties is set in Boone and Newton counties, and Fleming promises "you will learn something new about these thar hills."

Admission is $25, with seating limited to 42 per day. Tickets are available by calling 870.391.3504 or 870.365.8894, or by visiting the OAC office at 115 West Rush next to the Lyric Theater on the Harrison Square.
